Tamar Ettun’s four-year series Mauve Bird with Yellow Teeth Red Feathers Green Feet and a Rose Belly explores four primal emotions, each associated with a primary color: Blue/Empathy, Yellow/Desire, Pink/Aggression and Orange/Joy. Blue is the first part of the Mauve Bird tetralogy created in 2015 at the Watermill Center. Each year’s body of work has included exhibitions of Ettun’s sculptures and collages, public performances by The Moving Company, and communal movement workshops with inner-city youth. The tetralogy concludes this year with Ettun’s upcoming solo exhibition at the Barrick Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada.
