ZAZ Corner Billboard & ZAZ10TS Gallery, 10 Times Square, NY

During the weekend of August 22-24, 2020, the international premiere of “Outside” will take place on large led-billboards in the center of Tel Aviv; Times Square, New York (presented by ZAZ Corner); and Shibuya, Tokyo.

The dance film “Outside” is the first artistic collaboration between choreographer Inbal Pinto and author Etgar Keret. The film is based on a short story by Etgar Keret, which he wrote during the Covid-19 lockdown in Israel. It’s an Israeli-Japanese co-production that was shot during the Coronavirus pandemic simultaneously in Tel-Aviv and Tokyo. It features Israeli and Japanese actors, musicians and dancers, among them is Israeli dancer Moran Muller, and the famous Japanese actor and dancer Mirai Moriyama, who danced in Pinto’s troupe in the past.

Through an artistic prism, influenced by the ramifications of the COVID 19 pandemic on the lives of people all over the world, the film depicts individual feelings as well as the general-public sentiments that envelop all of us during this period of time.

The film’s creators and collaborators, who come from different worlds, bring together their artistic points of view, aiming to find new multidisciplinary approaches for the creation of art and communication between people, under the new restrictions and closed-borders, imposed by the global pandemic.

COLLABORATIONS

The project was initiated by Arieh Rosen, the Israeli culture & science affairs attaché to Japan, and supported by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, in an effort to continue promoting Israeli culture around the world, create opportunities for cross-country artistic collaborations, and try to tell new stories, even during a global pandemic and international lock-down.

The collaboration with Factory 54, a company that in the last year has been promoting and cooperating with artists and creators, was born during the Coronavirus pandemic. Factory 54 embraces the idea of keeping the cultural life alive and thriving, and sees it as a much-needed inspiration for the community, expressing common experiences of the new reality that surrounds us.

Expressing the sentiment of the time, “Outside” is making its way to the world during the summer of 2020, moving between languages and countries, as befits the world’s current sentiment. Screenings of ‘Outside’ on huge led billboards in central Tel Aviv, Times Square, New York and Shibuya Tokyo, intensify the surreal experiences we all feel during the international crisis.

Mishkenot Sha'ananim, will hold an open digital-premiere on August 24 at 9PM IDT. The program will include a talk with ‘Outside’ creators Etgar Keret and Inbal Pinto, and Caitlin Roper, a senior producer at The New York Times.

The project is supported by Factory 54, ZAZ10TS, the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Mishkenot Sha’ananim, Saitama Arts Theater, Herzliya Musuem, Dalia and the late professor Yossi Prashker, Kawade Shobo Shinsha publishing house, Wacoal Art Centre and The Israeli Opera.
