Basmat Levin
Basmat Levin is a New York-based artist whose vibrant, dynamic paintings are defined by bold chromatic intensity, expressive brushwork, and a strong sense of rhythm. Her distinct perspective is deeply shaped by more than 15 years spent living and working in Shanghai's M50 Art District. Through striking portraiture and abstract patterns, she brings a rich mix of cross-cultural influences directly into her work.
Expanding beyond the canvas, Levin creates large-scale installations using mixed media including metal, wood, wallpaper, and recycled fabrics. These works extend her painterly language into architectural space, transforming color into immersive environments that engage viewers physically and spatially.
Her art has been presented internationally in museums, galleries, and public spaces, and has been featured in major motion pictures including The Upside, Dinner Rush, and Suburban Girl, among others. Her work has been exhibited with Ethan Cohen Gallery (VOLTA Art Fair, Hamptons Art Fair), Agora Gallery, Crossing Art Gallery, and 302 Bowery Gallery (New York); Lilienthal Gallery (Knoxville, Miami); and Powerlong Museum, Leo Gallery, and Tangram Gallery (Shanghai). Large-scale installations have been presented at KuBe Art Center (Beacon), ZAZ10TS (New York City), MOCA Museum Pavilion, Pujiang Country Park, The Glam Bar (Shanghai), Yi Ou Lai Village (Suzhou), Zhujiajiao Water Town (China), Madam Fu (Hong Kong), Art Stage Singapore, Tel Aviv Opera House (Israel), and Juan Santamaría International Airport (Costa Rica).

MY MAGIC WALL | PERMANENT BUILT-IN ART INSTALLATION
1410 Broadway, New York
Curated by Tzili Charney, founder of ZAZ10TS, Basmat Levin’s My Magic Wall extends the artist’s practice beyond the canvas and into the architectural fabric of 1410 Broadway. Permanently installed in the building’s lobby, elevator areas, and bathrooms, the work transforms everyday spaces into immersive environments of color, pattern, portraiture, and rhythm. Located just a few blocks from 10 Times Square, the building is open to the public.
Through large-scale wall compositions, Levin’s portraits and abstract patterns become part of the building’s daily life, activating transitional spaces where people pass, gather, and move through the city. The installation brings warmth, energy, and a sense of human presence into the architecture, turning the lobby and interior spaces into a vibrant public artwork.
The building also features historical black-and-white images honoring the Garment District’s workers and industrial past. Together, these archival photographs and Levin’s bold contemporary visual language create a dialogue between history and present-day creativity, connecting the building to the neighborhood’s rich cultural and working-class legacy.
